Instructional Dance Videos

Dance should be integral part of all physical education programs. Social and ballroom dance teaches skills that are useful in real life events such as weddings, birthdays, holiday parties, and other social gatherings. The complexity of the movements involved in dance, coupled with the potential for moderate to high intensity cardio makes this an exceptionally well suited activity for growing brain cells and improving learning and academic performance. Other benefits include: it's fun, it incorporates social skills and appropriate touching, it often includes a cultural component, and it can be used for instant activities and/or warming up.
Line dances are choreographed dances in which people follow a repeating sequence of steps while arranged in one or more lines or rows.

Folk dances are similar to line dances but they also include a cultural component.

"POCO LOCO" dances are choreographed to specific songs. Each part of the song (the verse, the chorus, the bridge and the instrumental) has a set pattern that repeats each time that section of the song plays. POCO LOCO dances come in various formations: lines, circles, pairs, etc. Once they are learned, they are easy to remember because the movements are connected to each part of the song.

Ballroom/Social dances are traditional partnered dance forms that are done by a couple, often in the embrace of closed dance position. While physical education teachers are not expected to be professional dancers, they should not be afraid to try teaching ballroom/social dance. Our showcased examples (more videos are planned) may vary from certain “schools” of dance as well but our intention is to provide teachers with styles and patterns that are easy to teach because we want ballroom/social dance to be accessible to everyone, regardless of skill level or gender identity.
