How You Can Help

We believe that professional development is a key component to promoting quality physical education. Unfortunately, some forms of professional development come with a financial cost that many teachers are unable to meet. Two examples include membership into state, regional, or national Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance organizations (HPERD) and attendance of their annual conferences. These costs of approximately $100 and $200 respectively (2012) do not include the cost of travel, hotel, lost wages, and other incidental expenses.

You can help now by
“Adopting the Website" and in the future by “Adopting a Teacher" and/or “Adopting a Program."

Now

“Adopting the Website" covers the cost of maintaining, improving, and promoting the website. Currently, the majority of the website’s content has been created from hundreds of volunteer hours by undergraduate/graduate students and professors. Donations to the website will cover the cost of:
  • Promoting the website
  • Maintaining the website
  • Updating the website’s design
  • Creating new content
  • Professionally reshooting pictures and videos
  • Filming interviews with experts in the field and professional athletes
  • Documenting the effects of an experimental PE program “Inspire” at Chico Unified School District and the Children’s Storefront school in Harlem, New York

In the Future

“Adopting a Teacher" donation covers the cost of HPERD membership dues for one year and registration fees for the next annual conference. REAL teachers will be selected based on a brief application screening process.

“Adopting a Program" donation covers the cost of important equipment needs such as pedometers, heart rate monitors, and other fitness related equipment which help educators teach key fitness principles and have been shown to increase students’ levels of moderate to vigorous physical activity.
